Dublin Irish Festival is one of the largest events we service. This three-day event takes place in Dublin, Ohio and has everything from highland games, to music, food and market vendors, and cultural performances and booths.

We work alongside city workers to divert as much waste as possible from the landfill. Before the event we set out recycling and landfill bins along with signage. We also make sure every food vendor has a green compost bucket to collect food scraps. Back at our headquarters we set up our sorting center to process bags of recycling that aren’t clean enough to be directly recycled.

During the event we help swap bags, sort recycling and compost, recycle cardboard, and collect food scraps from food vendors.

Recycling

In 2024 we diverted 18,078 lbs of recycling from the landfill

We process recycling in two ways. We make sure all recycling is collected in clear bags, this allows us to see what is inside each bag. Our trained staffers are able to decide if a bag can be put directly in a recycling bin (if it has less than 10% contamination that can be picked out in the dumpster) or if it needs to go to our sorting center for further processing. At our sorting center staff and event volunteers sort bags into clean recycling, compost, and trash.

Cardboard is collected throughout the day from vendors and bars. This is a clean stream of recycling that goes directly to the cardboard dumpster to be recycled.

Compost

In 2024 we diverted 1,975 lbs of compost

We collect compost from every food vendor on site, and also from the green room, staff and volunteer catering, and from the VIP clubs.

Food vendor compost is collected throughout the event by a dedicated team. They check in on vendors in the three separate food courts to make sure compost buckets are always empty.

The VIP clubs, green room and volunteer catering all serve food and beverages in compostable serviceware. Throughout the event and overnight our team collects full bags and brings them back to our sorting center. From there we double check that no trash entered the bins. Thanks to our sorting efforts we are able to compost a clean stream of compostable serviceware and food scraps.
